From my brief experience of using Blender and other 3D softwares, I have always focused on meticulous detail. It has become common practice to tweak things that are broken, both in 3D and 2D design. However, for this project, I wanted to focus on intentionally breaking geometry, in order to convey liminality through a state of transition.
There are a multitude of way to achieve this, but I wanted to ensure motion was involved and that I let chaos do the majority of the work. Surprisingly, it’s very difficult to intentionally break something in Blender and make it look both intentionally and aesthetically pleasing.
I decided to model and animate arrays of strings, since it also related thematically to my Independence and Authorship project. Going off these preliminaries, I knew the animation would have to be abstract and primarily red — connoting the strategic use of the color throughout my other project.
