Liberation
The history of Bulgaria has always been a topic of interest for me. It is defined through hardship, struggle, and perseverance. The revolutionary war of 1908 and liberation from the Ottoman Empire brought about several prominent revered figures in Bulgarian history. Liberation is the name of both an interactive 3D environment and a display typeface I created. Within the environment resides three significant revolutionaries: writer Georgi Rakovski, poet Hristo Botev, and revolutionary leader Vasil Levski. Each of these figures reside within their own separate environment. Within each scene, memorabilia and objects and iconography surrounds the figures, relating to their status and/or contributions. The typeface is inspired by Bulgarian typography and writing of the time. It draws elements from classical handwritten Cyrillic letterforms, which were then reimagined into Latin letters. The typeface only exists within the context of this project, thus only the capital-case of these letters was created in order to highlight these larger than life historical figures.
